Annie L. Burton

Burton was born in to slavery in the early 1850’s.  Her life was very interesting when she was growing up during the Civil War.  She was living around the time of the emancipation.  It was interesting to see how she took responsibilities of a bad situation.  For example, she cared for her younger siblingsafter the death of their mother.  Another thing that was interesting about this narrative was when shetook classes at a school.  In this school, the headmaster encouraged each student to write their life story.  This is what got Annie L.  Burton to write her auto biography.

Burton seemed like she had more or a positive and optomistic tone that the other writers.  Her childhood on the plantation seemed pretty bad, however she seemed to be one of the lucky ones.  As I read this article, it was very interesting to see how the emancipation impacted the lives of these people.

I wonder why an essay about Lincoln, some poems at the end of this narrative.
