Do We Need Evil To Regulate Behavior?
September 21, 2006It all depends on how you interpret the question that came up in English class. Who is American society? Who is We? I would devide this into three catagories: Religion, Politics, and Media. Yes, they reassert evil, and it is needed. This world is already reasserting evil. If evil were to never happen, how can there be good?
Politics use the concept of evil all the time. They torchure, jail and execute dangerous people (yes, sometimes it’s a mistake) This is all to protect us. Just becuase there has been incidences of people wrongly accused of being terrorists, does not mean we should stop executing, and jailing people. This way, it would regulate behavior, and it should happen… However, politics should be careful in doing this because if they could get to the point where they start to be ruthless.
People engage in many different kinds of religion. Generally, all religions believe in a concept of good and evil. When people take part in religion, they are serious about it. Therefore, they will listen to the teachings of good and evil. By doing this, one will have a stronger good side, because they know what evil is. Everyone may not agree on the definition of evil, but everyone in one type of religion will. Religion certanly has the power to regulate behavior, and certanly use it.
